Effectiveness of Exercise in Progressive Neuromuscular Disease

While exercise has been shown to be effective in improving strength and endurance in normal subjects and in many patient populations, the value of exercise in progressive neuromuscular disease is less well-established. This paper reviews the literature on this subject, with special attention given to the many unrecognized or uncontrolled variables that have accounted for difficulty in interpreting study results. Conclusions regarding the value of exercise in this patient population are given. Key Words: Exercise—Assessment—Strength—Neuromuscular.
