A supramalleolar orthosis designed to balance tone about the ankle is described. The appliance provides ankle stability, stimulates dorsiflexion, and inhibits plantar flexion, thus delaying equinus contracture requiring surgical release. The orthosis has proved useful in the management of early Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Key Words: Duchenne muscular dystrophy—Lower limb orthosis.
